my 14 yr old son’s condition?

my 14 yr old son has just be diagnosed diabetic, i think im asking a really dumb question, but we have a hot tub will he still be able to use it? as i have heard diabetics aren’t allowed to use things like foot spas? any advice will be great also what things will he have to change he’s a usual teenager junk food etc, staying upstairs on wii, xboxes and msn messenger only taking basic exercise.

Don’t worry – he can still use it! The thing about foot spars is cos some people with diabetes loose feeling in their feet and then they might not notice it burning them – it’s really mainly a problem for people who have had diabetes for a long time. There’s no reason why he can’t still play xbox etc. either, but he might need to be more carefull about what he snacks on.

I have type 1 diabetes myself but I also run a support group for parents and carers of children with diabetes in my local area, so I know how hard it is when they are diagnosed. If you would like to spk to other parents you could try asking at your hospital – some keep lists of local parents so you can spk to someone who’s been there.
