HVAC question. mismatched evap, cond, and comp…..?
assuming typical electric heat strips, (3 @ 5kw), and air handler to match, how much room do i have in matching ac components for a 2500 sqaure foot home? 3 br 2 bath basic brick, normal exposures. texas and 400 cfm for ac. 3 ton compressor.
SO would i be wise to consider a brand new propperly sized heat pump? 13 SEER for about $6k? american standard and supposed 3.5 year payback? also need 6″ to a foot attic insulation and mechanical room sealed, (included). also a very “quick” load calc/guess indicated 3.5 ton. he didnt use the “bedroom-rule”, but counted ducts and based 3.5 ton unit on number/size/position of vents/grills.
3 ton will not be big enough for your home….considering you live in Texas i would get a four ton unit …..most likely you would be better off to replace everything …….you need to have some come and give you a estimate and do your heat loss/gain calculations…this will give you a better idea of what you will need and whether your old air handler can be used with a/c
