Is it safe to go to a Jewish mikvah while pregnant?
My husband and I were married in a civil ceremony last year. Now we are having a full Jewish wedding. The Rabbi says I should go to the mikvah but I am nervous because I am 5 months pregnant. Is there anything that could possibly happen to the baby from going?
A quick crude description: A mikvah is a ritual bath. Is it done in what is basically a tiny heated (not hot tub hot, just warm) swimming pool. You need to be clean before you enter the pool and you only stay in for a few minutes. The pool is filled with a combination of tap water and rain water and it is filtered and chlorinated just like a regular swimming pool.
You should be fine.
To be absolutely sure, ask your OB, and if s/he says it’s okay, double-check with the “mikvah lady”.
