Seeking lampshade-making instructions (from scratch) ?
Does anyone know of an on-line source to find basic lampshade making instructions? I don’t want to buy a whole book to make one tapered cylinder shade.Just want the basics, making a template, how to bind & seam, what’s the best glue for varnished paper (no fabric), assembly procedure, etc.
I need a custom size and don’t want to pay the premium.

If you can find a plain white lampshade in the shape you want, then you can use spray adhesive to apply the varnished paper you want to customize the shade. Get matching double fold bias tape or upholsterer’s braid to go around the top and the bottom edge for a finished look. You can get bias tape or upholsterer’s braid in the fabric stores. Good luck!!
If you want a custom size, it is unlikely that a template will be available. Just lay down the shade on a big piece of blank paper and turn it slowly until it’s back where it started. As you do this, mark with a pencil on the paper at the top and bottom of where the shade is touching as you roll it. When you’re done, you’ll have the template you need.
