How to decrease pink ph (8.4+) and blue alkalinity (240+) in a 375 gallon hot tub?
We just filled the hot tub for the first time yesterday with town water. The sides of the tub are not as clean as when we filled it, which indicates high alkalinity. Brown scum is accumulating around the edges at the water line. White chips came out of the pipes when we started it up. Some of the chemicals may have been blown out of the pipes. The previous people who used the hot tub were renters without permission. After using half a bottle of ph decreaser, we are going to go get a couple of gallons of vinegar and try 5 cups at a time. The 4 way strips are annoying because we can’t see any decrease. For the recommended startup, we used 11 oz of softsoak, 2 oz of stain and scale control, 7oz of soft soak shock, and 2 oz of sanitizer.
Slow down and check the water after 24 hours.All I have ever used for start up is water.You may want to drain the tub and start all over.
