My ear gauge has a hard, raw edge?
So my 00 gauges, which ive had in for a couple weeks, appeared to be healing up very nicely. theyve been at almost perfect health. a few days ago though, the left on started hurting. just now i took it out and noticed the top of the whole is sorta raw, and when i squeez it it feels hard, similar to a cyst but not as smooth. ive been cleaning them daily and doing vitamine e oil massages. i have stainless stear clean plugs. what could this raw, hard spot be, and how can i fix it? it hurts. btw. my gauges up till now have been extreemely healthy. i have stretched them very slowly and they are almost perfect circles
Could be lots of things, really. Some irritation that’s led to a little buildup of pus. Maybe your ears have decided they hate steel and want something titanium or glass. Sensitivities to jewelry material get more likely as we stretch larger, since you’ve got more skin in contact with the material. Maybe you were coming down with a cold that your body fought off but your piercing was a weak point. Maybe you had some tiny speck of dirt on your plug that scratched the inside of your ear. Identifying the cause is good so you can avoid it in the future, but more important is taking care of it.
Downsize to at least 0g, so there’s less pressure. If you have glass jewelry, wear that. Titanium or really good steel would be ok choices, but glass is usually the best for a sore ear. Saline soaks twice a day, and soap and water to clean. Leave the jewelry in and don’t move or mess with it. When you remove it be gentle, and use a lubricating oil to remove and insert jewelry to avoid any friction on the sore spot. Emu oil is great for irritation, fine for broken skin, and absorbs quickly. I really recommend you get some. Saline soaks should help it drain, and keep everything clean.
Treat your piercing like it was new, and if the sore spot doesn’t improve quickly with downsizing and babying it, then see a piercer or a doctor about it. Hopefully it’s not an abscess or anything somewhat serious, but if it gets worse or doesn’t improve then have a pro look at it.
