Why is my hot tub water cloudy?
It’s happened twice now in the 3 months we’ve had it. Both times it was after we had many people (including small children) in the spa. The chemicals were balanced before. I noticed the cloudy, haziness the next day. I re-balanced the chemicals but it remained cloudy. Both times.
The first time I was only able to get clear water by emptying and refilling. It’s only been 3 weeks since that refill and now it’s cloudy again. When I refilled the spa, I also put in a brand new filter.
I tried a clarifier the first time, but it didn’t work.
Questions:
- Why does it become cloudy?
- Can I do something to prevent it (no one in my household will shower before going in)?
- What can I do afterwards to fix it?

i do have a pool and spa. the cloudy water is from body oil and lotions people put on. the clarifier should work when used as directed. the stuff i use says one ounce per thousand gallons. no more or it won’t work, a little less is better. disolve the right amount in a bucket of water and mix it in with a broomstick or something. what it does is bind the molecules together so they will sink. usually takes a full day for my pool which is 26 thousand gallons. i use 5 ounces and the day it is crystal clear but i do have the pump running the whole time. hope this helps
