my central air conditioner malfunctioned and the motor was hot and bearings made noise?
my husband had the motor rebuilt and they replaced the bearings. He reinstalled the motor and the a/c cmae on and air was cool. The unit stopped after a couple of minutes. He pushed the restart and it came on again but went off. He checked the motor and it is excessively hot. What next?? We are in the middle of a heat wave — help!!
Sounds to me like the rebuilder did a crappy job. If the motor is over heating still, the armatures are bad. The motors shot. It would be cheaper to buy a new one vs take the old one out. Send to rebuild the gas trips ect. Just get the MN# off the unit and the make go online and order one. If you have a grainger near you, take the motor with you they can cross match what you have. Make sure you replace the capacitor for the fan motor or add one so you have the correct MFD rating to power the motor.
