Upgrading a hot tub pump to higher HP?
I have a 4HP pump in my tub which recently developed a leak. Since I’m shopping for a pump, I’m considering upgrading the HP. Would I run into troubles if I put in a 5 or 6HP pump?
You don’t really need to go to a higher HP. A 4hp pump and a 5hp pump and a 6hp pump motors all turn at the same speed and will pump the same amount of water.. You won’t get more water unless you also put on a larger pump head. Then you may or may not have difficulty in connecting the hoses/tubing.
If you are looking to get more water volume, look at the specs for your current pump and compare them to the new pump. The tubing/hoses are designed to pass a certain volume of water. If you push too much water through the hoses, you could have some of the joints and connections fail.
