My aluminum transom is coated with epoxy paint [supposedly to be anti-corrosion], however it still corrodes.?
My aluminum transom also protected by means of hanging zinc anodes, verified with multimeter. However, the aluminum transom is closely bolted to a huge stainless steel water jet unit. Will such disparity cause any accelerate corrosion on my aluminum transom?
Is there any calculation as to how much zinc anodes is ENOUGH?
as with any boat. there will always be a corrosion issue, especially in salt water. the zincs that are attached to say a stock mercruiser drive are can we say excessive? but all in good means. there are a few things you can do to help protect your boat though. the first being making sure you have fairly good condition zincs. once they become noticeably corroded they begin to loose their effectiveness. the second is to make sure all moving metal parts of your boat (ie: drive, transom, jet pump, engine, etc.) are all interconnected with grounding wires that go to the negative battery terminal. usually the moving parts minus the engine are grounded seperately of the engine to the battery’s negative terminal. the third is to use a zinc chromate primer on any painted metal surfaces; it just plain works. if your boat is a boat the sits in a dock space constantly in the water, i would reccomend the installation of a mercathode or equivelant system. these systems read microscopic voltages in the water surrounding your boat and emmit a counter voltage to fight corrosion of your parts. hope this helps you out
