stove smoking too much?
has any got any tips for stopping a stove from smoking? if wood gets wet does it smoke more?
damp wood smokes more but still should go up the chimney
A couple of things to check: The top of the chimney must be 3 feet above the highest point of the roof that is within ten feet of the chimney.
The fire must be burnt hot enough to keep the chimney warm . as the air rises when in the warm stack, it creates a good “draft” Wet wood does not burn hot.
Check for any obstructions in the chimney stack.
There is a manual draft control on most stoves. If smoke appears, open the draft more to let the smoke escape. Like when you have wet wood in the stove.
finally. When air is leaving your room and going through the manual draft and up the chimney, it must be replaced otherwise a vacuum is created. As an experiment, try cracking a window when it smokes to see if it helps. some homes are that tight that it is a problem for these stoves.
