What can you do to prevent or fix a soggy hot tub cover?
I have a cover for almost 4 yrs and just in the last week or so it got all soggy and its so heavy I can hardly move it ..I know there is water or ice built up underneath the top..We had a soggy bad winter with lots of rain ..Will it dry out,,Or can I put a hole in it to release the moisture or what? Thanks ahead for any advice.
Welcome to the world of Hot Tubs Manufactures. Hmmm you bought our tub now we need to get you to buy something else. 99% of the makers of covers use an open cell foam core that will absorb water. It will only get worse. The plastic membrane that wraps the foam gets destroyed by the chlorine/bromine or ozone you use to sanitize your tub. Thousands of little holes develop. Eventually the foam does reach a point where it will not hold any more water and I suspect that has happened with the others where they said water drains out of theirs. It’s not going to do it with the foam. There’s no fix for it. I have played around with them for 7 years with no success. The vinyl cover will be next to die since it can’t support the weight and the hinge support if your cover has one. A company called Rayner Covering makes a Closed cell foam cover 2# density that does not hold water. It’s the one to buy. Be sure to take your cover all with a lot of care each time you use it to try and make it last. Buy a cover lift!
