How much time should WE allow for a connecting flight from Fort Myers to LAX?
there are no direct flights from Fort Myers to LAX (from LAX we fly back home to New Zealand)
I am an American Citizen, but my partner is a New Zealander.
Therefore, I need to know if 1 hour enough for a layover to deal with customs and security (on the domestic end). If we miss a connection, are we covered?
And what is the best Airline? Continental, Delta etc?
If you fly from New Zealand to LAX and connect there before going to Ft. Myers, you will need at least 2 hours to connect because at LAX you will go through customs and immigration. Also you need to pick-up your bags and check them in at the connecting airline.
As for the flight back to New Zealand, 1 hour should be enough depending on the airline you fly with. I would prefer at least 90 minutes just to be safe because you will most likely be switching terminals and having to go through security again.
One airline I would recommend would be Southwest. The first 2 bags fly free. Plus the Southwest terminal is Terminal 1 at LAX. If you are flying Air New Zealand, they should be operating out of Terminal 2 at LAX.
