where should i live? (read details)?
i plan to leave america after i finish college. i am pale white with dirty-brown hair, normal in size, and blue-grey eyes. i am good with languages. i like cold/cool weather. i also like places with steam baths, spas, or hot springs people can go to. i like cities. i am artistic and plan to become either a writer, a phsychologist, or a doctor. what country is for me?
p.s. i am crazy about wine and cultural alcohol.
Cold/cool weather and steam baths/spas/hot springs suggests somewhere in northern Europe. Iceland, Scandanavia or some of the Spas in Germany might suit you. However, you need to know that you can’t just pick up and move when you get out of school.
Citizens of the EU have the right to live and work within the EU. It would be illegal for others to do so without a proper visa. The site for visas here in Italy is: http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp . The rules in much of the EU have been harmonized and will be similar.
You can find similar information for other countries on their consulate/embassy websites.
A work permit is separate – you cannot apply for that yourself. the company has to apply and they have to be able to demonstrate that there is not a viable EU candidate for the job. When I applied for a visa several years ago, the process took about 8 months even though it was just of transfer of the job I was already doing from the US to Italy.

There are similar sites specific to just about any country you might be interested in that you can find by searching for “ex pat” and the name of the country. Generally, these will have a lot of good information on daily life and negotiating the bureaucracy when you arrive and provide you with useful information you should know before you make the transition.
You might consider an education visa, come for school and make contacts that would be helpful later in finding employment. It would also give you a better idea of what it’s actually like living in a given country.
