Hot tub owners in Michigan or other mostly cold weather states– How much did your electricity bill go up?
How much does heating your hottub add to your monthly elecricity bill?
for people who live in places like Michigan where like 8 or 9 out of 12 months theres snow
im also thinking of getting a solar powered blanket for it, does anyone have one of those? how much does it save you on average?
and does anyone know if actual solar powered hot tubs exist or where i could purchase a good one?
for people in michigan and other cold snowy states have you found a certain hottub, brand, appliance or method of heating that works to reduce the cost of your electricity bills?

It depends on how you position your tub, I used to recommend to my clients that they put there tub in a sunny spot. That way they can receive free heat from the sun.
I also recommend choosing dark colors for your skirting, again it draws in heat. Pay the extra money for the thick foam cover 3″ thickness min if possible go for 4″, not only will it hold in the heat better but it will do a better job with the snow we can get in dumps.
I would not recommend solar blankets they don’t do well in hot tubs, five years ago we tried one, and it was deteriorating after a couple of months.
Make sure your tub is fully insulated, and feels solid. If it has soft spots or a flexible feel… run don’t walk away.
The tubs I used to sell, Beachcomber was built for Canadian winters, and although they are not the flashiest of tubs, they are damn reliable and about as energy efficient as you can get while still getting good power at the jets.
These tubs were so good that when my boss brought in a different product line I quit because Beachcombers are like the BMW of hot tubs, they were just about flawless.
