Spa Repair question?
I have a Leisure Bay spa which is about 2 years old. We recently went to go in it and found that it was not working. We emptied it, checked the fuse box etc but it still won’t work. Who do I call to check it out? I don’t want to call the place where we bought it as they were really expensive to install it – do I call and electrician? Any advice please.
Check your circuit breaker in your main panel, then check the disconnect that is mounted outside near the spa (by Code, it must be at least 5′ away), and then check to see if the GFCI breaker in the disconnect box has been tripped. Newer GFCIs will not reset if the trip and were not wired correctly, or if they have malfunctioned.
(There was a study completed about6 or 7 years ago that estimated around 80% of the GFCI receptacles installed since the late ’70s no longer offer any protection. That is why Underwriter’s Labs re-wrote the Standard for GFCIs to include the “no-reset” feature.)
If none of these actions work, call a qualified, licensed electrician. If he doesn’t find a problem, call the manufacturer and ask if they have factory-trained technicians in your area.
Don’t use it until you are CERTAIN that ALL of the electrical problems have been repaired.
