springs coming my turtles are getting bigger 5 inch and 4 inch so i want to pet them outside in a pond where do i buy a tub for the pond and is the weather right here or to cold during spring through summer will theye be happy in apond
I live in north Texas, which is much cooler in the winter than L.A., and I keep my turtles outside year round. One benefit of keeping them outdoors is you don’t need to use a heat lamp or UVB light. If your pond is too small, you may lose some turtles to predators such as raccoons. I found out the hard way. I’ve actually caught raccoons reaching in the water for my turtles at night, but fortunately the water was deep enough where they couldn’t reach them. If your pond is small, you can make a cover with chicken wire.
If you’re looking for something to keep your turtles in, you can find large Rubbermaid or Sterilite bins at Wal-Mart, but even better, buy a stock tank from somewhere like Tractor Supply. There are several Tractor Supply stores in California, although I think all of them are a good drive from L.A. They carry different sizes of Rubbermaid stock tanks up to 300 gallons. They’re heavy duty and even have a drain in the bottom which is convenient.
