Is it normal for a smoke alarm to go off when you run a hot bath ?
My father and I disagree on this —I think they should NOT and it is a safety issue and my father thinks they should go off with steam
Surely steam is not smoke ?

It’s normal for smoke detectors to be set off from steam from a bathroom, but it’s not normal for them to be installed so close to the bathroom door that it gets set off every time you take a hot bath or shower.
If relocating it is not an option, you could try replacing it with a photoelectric dectector, which is a supposed to be a little less sensitive to steam.
