How many wraps of Teflon Tape does it take to gauge to 0 gauge?
I’ve been at a 2 gauge for about 6 months ago. I decided to gauge to a 0. I got steel single flare earrings and bought a steel taper….yeah that thing is not going through. I tried taking a hot shower, massaging my lobes, lubing the taper up…yeah my ears are not having it. So I don’t want to do any damage and I heard of the tape method. I’ve never tried it before since I’ve never had any issues with tapers until this stretch. So I wrapped my current 2 gauge earrings twice…and yeah nope my ears aren’t having that either. So I wrapped it once. I can feel the minor stretch so that’s good. However, my questions are as follows: how many wraps is it going to take to get to a 0? Also, How long should I wait in between adding a wrap to my jewelery? I just don’t want to make my ears angry and I don’t want to tear my ears. Thanks for any help!
It’ll take quite a while.
I think Teflon tape is 0.075mm thick or something silly.
Just be patient. And use the 0g to see when you think you’re close. Roughly when the tape starts getting to the top of the o-rings.
Make sure to use plenty of lube, I use jojoba oil.
And add a layer once every few days. It depends on how happy your ears are. One of mine will quite happily do a layer a day, the other is soo much slower, like one or two wraps a week or something silly.
If its starts feeling too tight, then go slower. Simples.
