Anyone ever replaced the shaft seal on a Jacuzzi pump?
My bro in law took 3 months to finally look inside the tub and see that the main seal was leaking on the main pump and shooting water out. Some gets to the wiring and blows fuse and GFI. I pulled the pump for him but was curious if taking it apart is all that hard. Any tips or special tools needed? should I run? Just wanted to soak after a good college football game. Am I being selfish?
Not extremely difficult
Once you remove the motor you are going to need to remove the impeller which turns off counterclockwise …the problem is the rotor will spin when you try to remove the impeller ….so you need to prevent that from turning. There are a couple ways to do this….
Remove the rear cover plate which should expose the rear rotor shaft and either with a slotted screwdriver or a wrench depending on the motor your can stop it from turning.
The other unconventional way is to stick a slotted screwdriver into the cooling slots at the front of the motor to impede the fins from turning. ……this method frowned upon by many for fear of bending the fins ….I have never had a problem with it ….but that is up to you.
You are going to need to get a new seal from a pool supply store and pick up some aqua lube {and beer for the jacuzzi} …remember how the seal is…… before you remove it.
