Should I get a pool or a hot tub?
We are buying a house that already has a pool, but there is a basement underneath it, and we are worried if the pool leaks that it will ruin our basement. We were already planning on remodeling it, and I was wondering if we should keep the pool (although it does have a risk factor), or just get a nice hot tub? Which one would you rather have?
My experience is that hot tubs don’t get that much use after the initial excitement and newness wears off. They are also expensive to heat and need maintenance (chlorine, cleaning, etc.) You could also experience excessive moisture, then mold.
My choice would be a big, jetted 2 person tub that you can fill when you want to use it, then drain it until the next time. While you are remodeling, just put in a larger hot water tank (or two in a series) to provide enough hot water for this tub.
IDK about the pool, but there is a risk factor of drowning if young children are around.
