How complicated is it to get temporary guardianship…?
of a non-related minor (16 yo) child in WI? The parents are divorced, but cooperative. Dad is living out of the district the child is currently enrolled in, and mom is planning to move out of state in the near future. The child does not want to leave the school she is at now (junior) and I have offered to let her stay in a spare room. I am a teacher at the elem. school in our district so I won’t do this unless I can cover myself legally. Both parents agree that it will be best for the child to stay in the district where she is now and are willing to help cover living expenses, etc., but I need to be able to authorize medical treatment, school absences and trips, etc. Is temporary legal guardianship necessary or would a signed, notarized document do the trick? Any specific advice as to who I should direct my questions to on the county level would be appreciated.
I beleive a power of attorney should do the trick.
