Snake Enclosure Light/Viewing?
I have a Guyana Red Tail Boa and recently built and custom enclosure. The cage is about 5 feet long. I cut 2 holes in the top on each end and covered them with screen. I have a deep dome with 150w light which keeps it pretty warm on the right on the hot side and it lights up that part. I want to get a bulb for my other dome that doesn’t put out heat or TOO much heat. I want it for viewing purposes only because its pretty dark on the other side. Any suggestions? Also, I’m using repti-bark with newspaper underneath for bedding. What’s the best bedding for a wood/Plexiglas cage? That’s easy to clean but still gives a realistic atmosphere? Thanks a lot.
What kind of bulb and what wattage!
Hi there, very good question! It seems that you are not after one for basking (such as UVA/B) or heat so I would get a fluorescent bulb screw in style. They give great illumination but not much heat at all and while they are little pricey, they last a long time. Oh, you can use “reptile carpet” for bedding. Looks good and is easy to keep clean.
