Can you explain Hot Tub/Spa Maintenance to me?
I have a hot tub and need to know information about it to maintain the water in the Hot Tub. Can you explain the steps to maintaining a Hot Tub in an EASY way?
I have Hot Tub test strips for the Total Hardness,Total Chlorine, Free Available Chlorine Bromine, pH, Total Alkalinity, and Stabilizer. I also need to know what each of these do, and what I should do about it.
I tested it a while ago, and it said that most of these, actually all of them, were either very low or low.
What level should each be?
Well, you should also have a color scale, where it tells you what color it needs to be. If total hardness is low, add calcium. If Chlorine is low, add chlorine. If pH is low, add pH Up, If pH is high, add pH down, If alkalinity is low, add alkalinity up. I’m not sure about the last one.
You can find all these chemicals at your local Spa supply store. The store I go to offers to test your water for you, all you have to do is bring them a sample and they give you a print-out of exactly what you need to add.
OR…you could do what I do, which is a little more expensive but its much less maintenance, its a product called Nature 2 I think. You put it inside your filter and it basically levels for hardness, pH, and alkalinity for you. You just have to add chlorine once a week, and you have to replace the product every 3-4 months.
I suggest going to your local spa supply store and they should be able to give you everything you need.
