Best and cheapest type of chassis to build a car?
I’m wondering what would be the best and the cheapest type of chassis to build a car.
If you were looking to build a car that handles well, is light, easy to build and most importantly doesn’t cost you a fortune which style would be the best?
Would you go for a ladder chassis like most old cars, a spaceframe like a few sports cars, a full monocoque like most modern cars or an aluminum tub chassis like the Lotus Elise.
I’ld prefer a body on frame design with the body panels bolted onto the frame so it’ll make it easy to replace if damaged and give more freedom of body design while a spaceframe shell gives the car enough rigidity to handle well and be safe in a crash. But I also want to keep costs as low as possible and i’m not sure if good spaceframes are cheap chassis to build.
If anyone who knows about building cars and chassis could help me out here, it’ld be great!

These are mutually exclusive objectives.
It appears from the present herd of automobiles being produced that the “cheapest” is no frame at all but rather a unit body construction.
On the other hand, the “best” frames seem to be pretty exotic and that’s just another word for “expensive.”
