Dishwashers: Hot water from electric or gas?
My gas (ie water heater) has been out for 2-3 days and I need to do some dishes. I’ve searched all over the internet to see if the dish washer uses hot water from the water heater or heats it itself within the machine and can’t seem to find a good answer.
I have a Whirlpool that’s maybe 8-10 years old, I don’t exactly see a model number or have the manual.
I’m not sure how to tell other than running it and then opening it in 30 minutes to see if steam hits my face.
Do most dishwashers get their hot water from the hot water heater or do they heat it themselves electrically?
Dishwashers always use hot water from your water heater. Depending on the cost of the d/w it may or may not have onboard heat for the water temperature. It usually has a heater coil for the dish drying cycle, not the dish wash water temperature.
But more expensive machines do have onboard water heaters.
To answer your question, you would be washing your dishes in cold water. Yuk!
