5 string bass fret buzz?
My friend got his 5 string Schecter Stilletto Custom 5 set up at Guitar Center a while ago, and it came back still with some fret buzz on the low B. The guy said that no matter what, there was going to be some buzz on the low B, but I think he is full of BS. What kind of answer is that? Shouldn’t a 5 string play without buzz? Straight from the factory they don’t buzz, so what is this guy trying to tell us?
Is this guy jerking us around, covering up for a bad job of setting up the bass? It sure seems that way to me.
Not gonna mess with the truss rod. Messing with any adjustments when you don’t know how to set up a bass properly is a BAD idea.
To a degree he is right and in my case even on a couple of my 4 strings where I prefer a lower action I compromise a little and I mean a little, the buzz is ever so slight when I first attack the string as well as depending on how hard I attack it. And since bass guitars are made from wood every bass, even same manufacturer and model, well have its own “personality” that you learn to love or hate. I guess I am saying if the buzz is in tolerable levels and he loves how the bass plays it maybe something he has to except. But with that said this bass’s scale length is 35″ so the B string shouldn’t be to floppy and should be able adjust to have no fret buzz. If Guitar Center won’t try any more you may have to shop around and find another place to have it looked at and if they can take care of it I would take the bass and both receipts back to Guitar Center and try to get your money back.
Oh, you could also try a lighter string gauge as well.
