Very good answer from Veronica – a little help from a professional might help sell VOP on whatever solution you come up with. There are a lot of heaters that do not get so hot that you can’t touch them – including the oil filled ones and some radiant panels. Anything that gets too hot to touch can start a fire from having something put up against it or from being tipped over – just not a good idea in this situation.
So, the unplugging everything at night is fear of fire? Seems sane to me – particularly if VOP doesn’t move very fast. Thing is a plug-in heater of any sort will take hours to warm the place after a night of no heat. Is thee central heat there and is there no way to sell central heat with a set back thermostat? Is this about cost? Because oil or gas heat is going to cost less than an electric portable…
