Geforce 8800 GT running at 98 degrees celcius, too hot ?
I have an XFX Geforce 8800 GT Alpha Dog edition. It’s overclocked in factory, only to about 10%. It’s about 2½ years old. I was looking at the normal temperature the other day and it was 67 degrees Celsius, 153 Fahrenheit. I thought it should be about 50 Celsius/122 Fahrenheit. So I ran FurMark and watched the temperature rise to 98 Celsius/208 Fahrenheit with the fan too loud.
The question: Is this normal ? I had recently cleaned the fan grills and taken dust/hair out, is it possible that there’s still some more left in ? It does not seem to be easy to take the cover off to clean the fan. What are my options, apart from buying another VGA card ?
Should I open the fan, take the heatsink off and re-apply some silicone gel to it ?
Any help is much appreciated.
