What should I do to change my hot tub wiring from 4-wire to 3-wire 220?
The inside of the hot tub panel gives wiring options for 3 or 4 wire 220 cord. I bought a hot tub that was on 4-wire and changed it to 3-wire, but now everything works but the heating element. I suspect the extra line in the 4-wire was driving something. Is there a way I can convert the wiring within the hot tub???
The hot tub shows a way to connect to either 120 or 240v. It WAS connected to 240, however, I am attempting to connect to 120. ie going from 2 hots, a ground and a neutral to 1 hot, a ground and a neutral. What do I need to change in the hot tub wiring to make this 3-wire conifuration work??
Why did you change? Is this a cord that plugs into an outlet? Residential 220V as of 1996 is 4 wire. There should be two hot one neutral and a ground. And it is possible that you left one of the hots out. That would explain your problem like the other answer said. Pumps are probably 120V but the heating element would only produce half the heat.
